Can Melatonin holds it’s own with big pharmaceutical companies making bigger and bigger profits every year? It should come as no suprize that when the natural remedy Melatonin is claimed to work as well as multi million dollar sellers such as Lunesta and Ambien but costs just a fraction of the price the drug companies are the first to cry phony and dismiss any claims for the benefits of Melatonin.

Although Melatonin is recognized for it sleeping benefits one thing Ambien and Lunesta can’t claim is that they also provide anti aging benefits which is now being shown to be true of Melatonin. As well as making you feel more youthful and appear younger it is claimed Melatonin helps protect the body from diseases such as cancer and Alzheimers. Further tests seem to have proved that Melatonin stimulates the production of the youth hormone HGH (Human Growth Hormone).

Melatonin is a extremely effective antioxidant. It wipes out free radicals those substances claimed to cause disease very easily. But much more than that it stimulates the production of additional anti oxidant enzymes which build a shield of protection throughout the body from a whole range of illness and anti aging effects.

For anti-aging benefits, take just 0.5 mg of melatonin a day. To help you sleep, take between 1.5 mg and 2 mg before going to bed. If you have a chronic disease, like cancer, a stronger dose of 20 mg to 40 mg before bed is recommended.

You might think with the negative reaction of the big pharmaceutical companies you won’t discuss the use of Melatonin with your doctor but this would be foolish especially at the high dosages. When using to aid sleep my personal experience indicates it is best to take 1-2 hours before retiring for the night and then the next morning you’’ll feel refreshed and not sluggish. Nursing or mothers to be should not use hormones or supplements without speaking to their doctors.
