Today 1 in 4 women will suddenly start to notice that they are losing more hair than would be considered normal.  Often there are several different reasons, which have resulted in them losing hair.  Below we look at the two main types of hair loss women may suffer from.  Certainly the more a person learns the more they understand about the hair loss in women causes.

1.  Androgenetic Alopecia, which is similar to that which men suffer from, however, in women rather than becoming bald it results in a diffused thinning of the hair on the scalp.  In some cases the woman may actually suffer from a combination of two types of this hair loss problem and is caused by a number of different factors.

Normally the main reason for a woman to suffer from this form of hair loss will be that the hormones within their body are not functioning properly.  In many cases their levels of DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) has increased and when this happens, it prevents hair growth from taking place.

The other reason why a woman may suffer from female pattern baldness involves their genetic makeup.  Although some people believe that only the woman’s father needs to have this gene in order to suffer from this form of hair loss, in fact it needs to be both parents that have passed the gene on.

2.  Telogen Effluvium is the second most common form of hair loss in women today and is often the result of a traumatic even that has occurred in that woman’s life.  Certainly, women who have had a child, undergone major surgery, or suffered some form of severe stress have noticed that they may be losing more hair than normal.

The only difference between this type of hair loss and that mentioned previously is that usually a woman will notice a difference about 6 weeks to 3 months after the event has occurred.  For some women the condition may be so severe that they begin to lose clumps of hair from particular areas of the scalp, rather than a general thinning of hair over the scalp as a whole.  Nevertheless, with the right diagnosis and treatment, this can be brought under control and in most cases, they may find the condition goes into remission.

Yet for some women the condition may be very severe and they will find that it becomes chronic and can be a problem they have to live with for a number of months or years to come.  For many women before they can find a treatment for the condition they first need to understand what may be the trigger for it happening.

Above are the two most common kinds of hair loss in women and causes, which should hopefully help you to understand it.  Knowing what hair loss women cause, can then help them to get the right kind of treatment that will prevent the condition from becoming any worse.
