It’s easy to improve the look of your home in 2 days. The external view of your home creates the first impression for the buyer but inside your home is what really counts. Your home must gleam, it must smell good, it must look spacious, it must be as perfect as possible. Anything less than perfection can cost you a sale. Remember you can sell your home through an auction but you should still be prepared for viewings. Follow these easy steps.

* Before you put the “For Sale By Owner” sign on your front lawn, you will need to go through your home to get rid of the clutter.  Clutter and dark colors tend to turn off most buyers.  This means you will need to go through the clutter and weed out some of the things you can’t or don’t use.  So what do I mean by clutter- clutter is anything personal; ornaments, too many books, clothes thrown everywhere. Getting the picture ? And by the way- get rid of your children’s toys!

If you’ve painted your walls in bright or garish colors re-decorate. Get rid of anything that hits you in the face and paint all rooms in either a neutral or a light colour. Light colored walls with bright lights create a feeling of space, increase the power of your light bulbs, increase the number of your lights, increase your space!

If your carpets are worn, dirty or stained you should, whenever possible, replace them. If you can’t afford to or if they’re not too bad then clean them very, very thoroughly. Clean and polish all windows and mirrors so they gleam!

A dirty kitchen is a major no ,no. Clean this room and its appliances until they sparkle. Clean your oven and your stove, clean the drip pans under each burner.Polish your fridge, your dishwasher and any other kitchen appliance you have. Clean until your kitchen gleams!

* Clean all the window treatments, including the blinds, and clean all the fingerprints around the doorknobs and light switches.  Make sure to clean the wall around your wastebaskets, especially the one in the kitchen.

Clean,de-clutter.These are the key words. Remove as much as possible from your kitchen cabinets and from all your cabinets.Clean your kitchen countertops and leave them as empty as possible.

* Arrange your clothes in your closets to where they hang neatly and not over crowded and remove some of the items off the shelves and everything on the floors leaving them looking spacious and clear.  Make sure to clean and organize your garage, basement and attic space.

Your home must appear perfect to potential buyers. So now make sure that there are no leaks, squeaks, or rattles in your home. If you’ve had any water damage repair and make sure all signs of this are fixed. If any nuts, bolts or screws are loose tighten them up, fix them! Potential buyers must not think that there are any repairs to do in their new home!

Your FSBO home has to smell as clean and fesh as possible. Use aromatherapy oils to get rid of or disguise any odors which your home may have. This is especially important if you have very young children or pets. Get a friend or neighbor to tell you if there’s any smells in the house, then get rid of them!
