The Caribbean just might be the biggest and best family playground in the world. If you’re planning a Caribbean family vacation, there are some key features that you should look for in choosing an all-inclusive resort. In general, most family vacation packages offer the following:
* Reduced rates for families
* Convenient meals and tap drinks
* Water and beach sports
* Water slides and swimming pools
* Pampering for grown-ups, such as spas, dining rooms and cocktail parties
* Baby-sitting and other amenities
* Family programs and kids’ activities
However, there are times when there are just so many all-inclusive Caribbean family travel resorts out there that it’s difficult to pick just one. Given the financial cost and emotional investment, the stakes are high. How do you know which one goes with you and your family best?
“Everything Included” vs. “All-Inclusive”
When you see a hotel advertising an “all-inclusive” package, you’d assume that everything is included at one price. Be careful, because all-inclusive Caribbean family vacation packages do not necessarily incorporate everything. Your meals and snacks, drinks, kids’ programs, activities and certain water sports are usually included, but some may be limited.
There are other points to consider:
* Gear for snorkeling is frequently free, but there may be a limit on how long you can use them. And if you want to join a snorkeling boat trip on your Caribbean family travel, it may have an additional cost.
* Expect to pay extra for scuba gear.
* Spas always cost extra, unless you have purchased a special Caribbean family vacation package.
* Outings off of the resort property usually cost extra, although free shuttle service to nearby towns may be available.
* Even if your resort is not “all-inclusive”, you may have access to special meal plans and/or activities.
* Non-motorized water sports, including kayaks, aqua trikes and wind surfing, are usually included. You may have to pay extra for water skiing, jet skis and other motorized water sports.
Kids Clubs and Activities
Most all-inclusive Caribbean family vacation packages offer kids clubs. Many resorts provide cute and friendly little clubs with toy rooms, TVs and video games for older kids. A warm and friendly staff will be available to care for your kids.
If you want your children to enjoy multiple programs, most all-inclusive resorts have these as well. There are various places offering programs for kids of all ages. Club Med in Punta Cana, Beaches Resorts and Atlantis in the Bahamas offer these types of programs with their all-inclusive Caribbean family vacation packages.
Traveling with Wee Ones
Increasingly more Caribbean family travel resorts now provide nurseries and infant care for guests traveling with their babies or toddlers. This is welcome break for you, parents, because even if you only leave your child for a few hours in the nursery during nap time, that short amount of time can be invigorating and gives you a chance to enjoy your Caribbean family travel vacation yourself. Be sure to double check the site where you booked your Caribbean family travel to make sure that the baby-club will actually be in service during your vacation.
If you’re concerned whether on-site doctors or nurses are available, try one of the bigger Caribbean family travel resorts. They’re your best choice.
