Upon knowledge of this behavior, dog owners will surely find information on methods or techniques on how to stop this. You just have to stop him from ingesting feces if you do not want parasites such as tapeworms and whipworms to infest his small body.

Dogs eat poop for various reasons. Starvation or lack of food intake is what some people believe to be the reason why a dog eats his poop.

A dog also eats his poop to avoid punishment. Most dog owners punish their dogs for doing something unacceptable just like urinating or letting out in inappropriate places like living room or bedroom. In order to avoid being punished, your dog will eat his poop to hide the proof of his mistake.

Seeing a pile of poop under your bed is just an indication that your dog is scared of your punishment and may also indicate that he could be eating his poop. Once caught eating his poop, don’t wait any longer. You must do something to alleviate this problem.

The best thing for you to do is to keep your yard and other areas of the house free from poop. Teach your dog his appropriate bathroom so that it will be easy for you to gather and dispose his dirt. Another solution is to put cayenne pepper or something to make the feces taste bad therefore discouraging your dog to eat it. Breaking one large meal into smaller and frequent feedings a day will also help your dog improve this behavior.

It is best to help your dog stop this behavior at once because once became a habit, this will surely become a difficult one to break that will cause various threats to your Shih Tzu’s health.
