Life of the average Romanian is intimately involved with work. Romanians are busy people and begin their working day pretty early. They usually start off at seven in the morning and finish off by three in the afternoon.
But family life is of utmost importance to the average Romanian. A traditional Romanian family still sits down together at meal time. This is all more true in case of family businesses.
The Romanian economy is going through a period of unprecedented growth. The shortages of the communist era or the uncertainties of the period of post communism reforms are both a thing of the past. The economy is also diversifying into a wide industrial base. The vibrant sectors of industry at present include footwear and textiles, wood products, mining and metallurgy, machinery and machine parts, chemicals, construction materials, oil refining, and food products to name a few. The country is nowadays making a foray into medicine, heavy machinery and home appliance industries. It is also making rapid advances in the sunrise sectors like Information Technology and automobiles.
The point of telling you all this is to let you understand that Romania has become an industrialized nation. In fact, agriculture is suffering there, as a large part of the agricultural work force has moved to industry.
However, people here are quite a friendly sort. They like hanging out with their friends over beer, coffee, or wine. They also like chatting with the women.
Romanians are also a people known for their hospitality. They feel that the standard of living has improved dramatically in the last 17 years. As far as their work habits are concerned, they have their own style and pace of doing work. This might appear to be a bit slow, at least to other people like French, say.
To continue, the nice aspect related to living in Romania is that Romanians do not obey to strict rules, like Germans, they do not always know what the next step is in their activity. Romanians are ambitious and yet some of them are not quite so disciplined.
In Romania, people enjoy free time at the weekend and during public holidays. However, free time is shorter nowadays because people feel more tired, they are busier and lonelier. Actually, this is the definition of living in Romania and in Europe or anywhere in the world at the beginning of the 21st century.
Romanians tend to find the balance between career and family, to manage stress and to improve their work every day. Most of them believe that happiness is not a result, but a way of living. They are happy when they wake up and they are healthy and thank God for it. After all, living in Romania can be a spiritual challenge because those who cannot face living there usually look for their happiness abroad…
