Useful And Practical House Cleaning Tips

Greese and bacteria are the worst enemies you can have in your kitchen. You will want to keep on top of these by cleaning your kitchen on a regular basis. Make sure you remove all your kitchen appliances, e.g. toaster, mixer etc., off from the bench tops before you start to clean. Otherwise the bacteria will find it's way under your appliances and will flourish.

Otherwise the bacteria will find it’s way under your appliances and will flourish.

If you have 30 minutes to spare, you can add the following to the list. A few sprays from an all purpose cleaner onto the floor and a damp micro fiber cloth will do the trick in minutes, without the use of a dirty water bucket. You can spray the surfaces of appliances with disinfectant and wipe them dry within minutes.

If you can spare an hour why not add the kitchen cabinets to your list.  Start with these using soapy waer and a sponge.  Wipe the front of the cabinets from top to bottom.  Finish these off with a wood cleanser if they are made from wood.

If you have about two hours to spare add to the list the cleaning of inside your appliances.  For the fridge, use about 3 tablespoons of baking-soda mixed together with 3 cups of luke warm water.  Now lets tackle that oven.  Use a multi-purpose cleaner with the help of a scraper to remove food which has stuck onto the racks.  For inside the kitchen cabinets, you will have to remove the contents, then get rid of food and crumbs by using the vacuum then clean with a damp cloth.

If the appliances are made of stainless steel wash them with soapy water and use a nonabrasive sponge. Dry with a kitchen towel. If you want to you may smear a layer of -steel polish complying to the package instructions.  Then simply wipe off any excess straight away. Get a dry towel and buff the polish on top of the surface. Stop when the surface becomes shiny and the towel comes out dry.

Below are some extra one-off practical cleaning tips:

Wax on candle holders?  No problem.  Pop the candle holders in your freezer for approximately an hour.  When removed from the freezer the wax should just come off.

Cloudy look on your best drinking glasses?  Put them in warm water with a drop of vinegar.  Leave for about an hour then polish wih a nylon sponge.

If your mattress has a nasty smell, dab the area with cold water then using borax sprinkle on top of the water.  Get a cloth and vigorously rub the borax into the mattress.  Brush of the remaining powder.

Do you hate scraping wallpaper off walls?  Why not try using equal parts of water/vinegar and soak the paper.  Repeat this again with another bucket of water/vinegar.  The paper should now peel away from the walls all by itself.

Smelly garbage bins?  Put slices of lemon inside.  This helps get rid of bad smells.

If you have clothes that are delicate, place them inside a pillow-case then wash them on a gentle cyle in your washing machine.

Kids put crayon on your walls?  Get out your toothpaste and rub into the area.  Rub away with a dry cloth.

Streaky mirror?  A cheap way to clean these is to use an old cloth soaked in warm water.  Clean the mirror then dry and buff up with a crumpled-up newspaper.
