It's impossible to plan for every outcome that life offers us. We manage our time in order to meet our goals in life, but things don't always go just as we picture them. Because the outcome of our daily lives depends on what we decide to do with our time, we need to be willing to make adjustments to our schedule.
It’s impossible to plan for every outcome that life offers us. We manage our time in order to meet our goals in life, but things don’t always go just as we picture them. Because the outcome of our daily lives depends on what we decide to do with our time, we need to be willing to make adjustments to our schedule.
Since time is a limited commodity, we need to consider the most important way to use it. Work, family, and recreational activities can lay claim to the entire day, so it’s critical that we spend it doing what brings the greatest return in the time we’ve invested.
Because of this it is important to know what is important to you and to plan the use of your time around this. So, the first thing you need to do is to identify your goals and write them down. Once this is done, you can sit down and decide on what actions you need to take to achieve these goals. Some of these may be quite simple, like cleaning your car. Others will be more complicated and will require a number of steps to achieve.
After listing your goals and defining the steps needed to bring them about, you can begin to schedule your time around them. But since circumstances in your life will always be changing it’s important to recognize the changes and maintain an attitude of flexibility. Finding alternative ways to manage your time does not need to be stressful. Remaining flexible can make finding a new routine a positive experience.
Note how much time you are involved in each activity or endeavor. Are you seeing results? If you find that your priorities have changed or that you are not realizing your objectives, you need to be open to restructuring your schedule. As you continue to monitor the time you spend at each of your daily activities, and the success of your goals in life you’ll become more experienced at effectively managing your time.
You need to be willing to keep assessing your plans. Keep track of what gets done and whats doesn’t so that you can keep making improvements. While this is a useful tool for identifying and adjusting to the priorities in your life it can also help you on a daily basis.
A well planned schedule, offering a consistent routine is crucial for efficient time management. Try to be consistent, but also expect changes. Each day can present different challenges, and those challenges can progress as the day passes. The schedule that worked perfectly for the day before may not the best approach for today. Throughout your day, take time to re-evaluate. Be flexible, and be ready to make the most of a canceled appointment, or having to travel additional miles to a new office location.
Learning to determine your goals, set priorities, and manage your time can be useful and rewarding when you choose to accept changes and learn to be flexible.
