Feeling stuck at home and unable to get out to the gym? Don’t worry: There are still lots of ways to get your exercise right around the house and burn some calories.
Keep in mind, we’re not talking about exercising in the house, per se. Rather, we’re talking about normal chores that will probably need to be done anyway - chores that can also double as calorie-burning exercises. Here are just a few ideas.
One excellent way to burn calories is through mowing your lawn (push mower, please, not a riding mower). Similarly, tending to a garden, pulling weeds, and so forth, will all help you ‘exercise’, while allowing you to enjoy the sunny weather!
Another calorie burning activity is to organise your drawers and wardrobes. Take out all the clothes you don’t wear anymore, try them on, bag them up and send them to a charity shop. You won’t burn a huge amount of calories doing this, but it sure beats slouching in front of the television and not doing any activity at all.
Why not sort out all the old things in your home and have a great big clear out. You could have a garage sale and show people around the items you are selling. Running backwards and forwards would be a great calorie burning activity. Not only will you burn more calories but you will also gain some money for your efforts!
Kids can help you burn a few extra calories - as any busy mother knows! How about one sunny day taking them to the park or having a picnic with them. Help them build a fort or jump on the swing with them. Jump rope with them, or play kickball. There are any number of ways to have fun at the park that will help you burn calories.
If you don’t have children but you have a dog, then get out the leash and take the dog to the park instead. Take a ball to throw, which is great for the arms, and run around with your dog. Your dog will love the attention and the exercise and you are taking part in a great calorie burning activity.
Redecorating can be a great calorie burning activity. All the lifting and stretching is a great way to increase your exercise level and burn more calories. Make sure if youre lifting that you are doing it right, you dont want to end up in bed with a bad back! So get out the paint pots and the rollers and give your whole house a makeover. Not only will you be taking part in a great calorie burning activity but your house will be a fresh and inviting place to relax in afterwards.
Anything that you do normally around the house can be turned into a calorie burning activity; just remember to put a little more effort in the things you do and get your heart pumping. When your heart is pumping fast and hard you know you are getting a good workout!
