Physical activity is definitely important if you’re trying to be healthy, but it’s just as important to include proper nutrition in your lifestyle. This is even more critical for anyone who’s training for a triathlon.

Food is fuel, and when one of the things you should be doing when preparing for a triathlon is making sure your giving your body the right fuel. Changes to your diet may be in order to make sure that you’re getting the right triathlon nutrition, and you may even want to consider taking supplements.

You want to eat all the right foods that contain the proper amount of vitamins, minerals, and calories. That way, you’ll be far more likely to succeed.

If you really want to win (or at least make a good show), your body needs to be in the best condition possible. So that means following the right training, staying in great shape, and not injuring yourself.

Feeding your body what it needs to work and train correctly is one of the best ways of getting ready for your race.  Some take triathlon nutrition lightly because so many calories are burned in training.

While you do need more calories when you’re training, it’s not an excuse to eat a lot of highly processed junk; you’ll do far better if you eat good, wholesome foods.

Some competitive triathletes understand the importance of triathlon nutrition so well that they seek advice from a professional dietician. A professional dietician will be able to create a personalized nutrition plan that will work best for your body and your training.

It is very likely that a dietician will suggest that you have a diet that is suitable for your training and competition schedule.  He/she will advise that you eat a lot of fresh foods that are packed with a lot of vitamins and minerals.

Your body will benefit from the energy boost it’ll get from consuming grains, vegetables fruits, and lean meats: They contain nutrients that will keep your tank full. It’s a good idea to plan meals ahead of time instead of relying on energy bars or drinks, which can be pricy.

Stay away from foods high in sugar and fat when you’re training for a triathlon. Your training will be negatively affected when you consume a lot of junk food. You should also steer clear of alcohol, because that will leave you dehydrated.

When you follow a proper triathlon nutrition, you’ll have more energy and enthusiasm for your training, which means you’ll enjoy better results!
