There is a close association with the problem of acid reflux and your gall bladder.  As it is the bile that this part of your body stores, which will normally be released back in to the esophagus because a valve at the bottom is unable to close properly.  Before we take a look at gall bladder disease (GERD) let us learn a bit about what the function of the gall bladder is.

It is a small sack (pear shaped) that is to be found between the lobes of the liver directly below them.  Within this there is a small duct (y shaped) which is the common bile duct and it is this that carries bile from the liver and gall bladder into a person’s small intestines.

When you eat the fat within these foods will be taken into your digestive system and as soon as they reach your stomach a hormone is released.  At the same time as the hormone being released by your body the gall bladder releases bile that has been produced by your liver.  Together these work on breaking down the fats so that the nutrients contained within can be absorbed by your body and used to help it to function properly.

However, if the valve between the gall bladder and your esophagus becomes weakened then you are at a much higher risk of suffering from acid reflux.  Normally the first time you will notice a problem is when after eating you feel a burning sensation in your throat.  Often in the beginning the mild form of acid reflux known as heartburn can be treated using over the counter treatments.  However, if the condition becomes any more severe then you may well find that you need to take some kind of medication prescribed by your doctor.

Generally the first course of treatment for dealing with heartburn or mild forms of acid reflux is for a person to use antacid medications.  These work by helping to neutralize the acids that are being produced in your stomach and which are able to gain access to your gall bladder.  What you find taking these types of medications is that they help to relief the pain and discomfort that one feels from the acid reflux symptoms.  However, if the condition is left untreated and it becomes much worse then other medication may well need to be prescribed by your doctor instead.

If antacids are proving to be ineffective at treating the problem, then you may well discover that your doctor chooses to prescribe a course of histamine antagonists instead.  These work in much the same way as antacid medications do but contain far more powerful ingredients within them.  Not only do they help to relieve the symptoms of acid reflux much more quickly, but also ensure that they symptoms remain away for much longer.

But along with the medications you can buy over the counter or which your doctor prescribes some people prefer to use more natural remedies as well.  The main reason for them doing this is because they are much less expensive to purchase, and they actually feel that they are a lot safer to use as well.

When it comes to treating problems of acid reflux and your gall bladder it is best that you speak with your doctor first.  By doing this they will actually be able to help you to determine just what is the best course of treatment for your condition and so which will provide you with the right results.
