It may still be a bit a chilly outside but if you have ever considered exercise outside of the gym then now is the perfect time to begin. There are plenty of things to choose from that will keep you fit during the warmer months without being stuck in the gym and we will focus on a few of these to help you get started:

Walking/Running - nothing could be easier than picking a route, putting on your trainers and going for a walk or a run. There are an abundance of trails and footpaths around so you don’t even have to use pavements, and most people live fairly close to a park. Be sure to invest in a good pair of walking boots/running shoes to ensure you stay injury free.

Cycling - an effective and impact free exercise that only requires a bike and a helmet. It’s a great way to get to and from work but plan your routes well, traffic and the quality of road surface can turn a pleasant ride into a nightmare!

Tennis - Adding some fun to your exercise is always a good thing and this is where tennis comes in. More sociable than the others and a great workout for the whole body (doubles will increase the fun but decrease the exercise benefits).

Triathlon - it may seem a little bit more daunting than the others but triathlon is a varied and fun sport with a big social side. Comprising of swimming, cycling and running you can compete in anything from Super Sprint (400m swim, 10km cycle, 2.5km run) to Ironman (3.4km swim, 180km cycle, 26.2 mile run) it pretty much caters for all abilities and events such as the London Triathlon are always full of people just doing it for fun!

Bootcamps - these are springing up all over the country and offer circuit style training in your local park. It’s sociable, effective and cheap (classes start from about £5) and the safety in numbers approach means no one will dare laugh at you!

So there you have several options for exercising in the great outdoors, and the fresh air and sunshine will be a great motivator to keep you going all summer (and all winter if you really enjoy it)!
