Tarps For Covering Up Boats

Explaining the many benefits of using a poly tarp to cover up a Boat.

By Robert Page

Need to cover your boat?

All of us who own boats, or personal water craft, have all faced the same problem at the end of the boating season. How to protect your watercraft the best, for the least amount of money. Poley Vinyl Tarps are the best way to do this, and you can get them almost anywhere. Whether you purchase one from a local retailer, i.e. Wal-Mart, or you purchase one from your boat dealer, you just can’t go wrong with this purchase. Blue Poly Tarps are nothing more than a thin sheet of vinyl polymer plastic that you can lay over your craft that will keep the rain and elements from ruining the paint job, or soaking the carpet and growing mold or mildew. Of course, the thicker the tarp, the stronger, and the more protection it will offer. Once you lay it out over your boat or personal watercraft, you really should tie it down, with stakes, or some other type of tie down to make sure it will not fly away in the next strong wind. White and Silver poly tarps are thicker and much more durable, and; therefore; more expensive. This expediture will, in the long run, pay off by keeping out damaging rays from the sun, not only the white light that you can see, but also the ultra violet rays that you cannot. This is an added bonus as the ultra violet rays will not be able to contact the boats paint and start it to fade or worse, chip, crack, and peel. Once the paint starts going, we all know the only way to fix this proplem is to repaint it. No one wants to pay unnecessary money to fix a problem that is easily avoided by covering your boat, and keeping it out of the sun and elements. There are places that you could pay someone else to keep boat in an inclosed area, but why pay that much money for someone else to do what you yourself can do for a lot less money. It just doesn’t make sense to me. The extra benefit with Silver poly tarps is that the silver layer not only reflects the light, but also reflects a lot of the heat that accumalate while the craft is covered. If you cover your any at all during the summer time, the heat that can accumilate under tarp can be enough to warp or melt some of the instruments or other parts of your boat. Sometimes, even make the seats hot enough for the vinyl covers to shrink and tear along the seams or in the middle, and nobody wants that. So, the easiest and most cost effective way to protect your boat or personal watercraft really is to purchase a poly tarp and cover it up anytime you aren’t going to be using your boat, and you will have your boat to enjoy for a while longer with fewer upkeep expenses, than without it
