A few people across this country have made it known that they think any type of prepaid legal service is a scam. And gradually this scam has inched its way into the survival kits of over one million individuals and families throughout America and our northern neighbors Canada. The prepiad legal service scam has even made a few opportunistic business people rich too.

The prepaid legal services scam first started in the U.S back in the early 1970’s and its creators claimed that it would do for lawyers what medical insurance did for doctors. It was even reported that a similar prepaid legal scam had been popular since the 1930’s in some parts of Europe and was actually the inspiration for the American version.

Check Out a Snapshot of the Prepaid Legal Service Scam

Prepaid Legal Consumer Scam -The organizations that offer prepaid legal plans have gotten people to pay upwards of $1.25 a day with a promise that they’ll receive legal protection for legal problems that may occur but haven’t occurred yet. So really, a person or their family may never have to use their prepaid legal plan.

Though it resembles the same business model and offers protection comparable to the protection that is equivalent to that of vehicle and residence insurance providers, it’s still is considered a scam by some. This is mainly becaue we place more value on things like vehicle and homes than we do on the legal rights of ourselves and our families. It’s just legal rights that prepaid legal providers agree to protect.

Prepaid Legal Lawyer Scam -This area of the scam is what usually gets people to be fooled by it. You see, prepaid legal companies have gotten reputable law firms from coast to coast to be complicit in this little prepaid legal services scam.

Even though participation in such a prepaid legal scam could mean immediate disbarment for these lawyers, not to mention the irreparable reputation damage, they still go the extra mile to really sell the scam by providing prepaid legal members with phone consultations, contract reviews, and even some courtroom representations. But I admit that there have been some complaints because the lawyer retainer fee of $1.25 a day doesn’t cover the costs of trying a murders trial- SORRY.

Prepaid Legal Services Stock Scam -The prepaid legal service scam has entered into the homes and investment portfolios of thousands of people too. A major prepaid legal provider managed to deceive the government to the point where they were given permission to sell stocks of their company to unsuspecting investors. They’re currently grinning down from the NYSE and spreading their scam across more lives.

What I’m ultimately saying is that paying now to protect yourself and your family from unforseen legal situations is not a scam. If prepaid legal services were scams they would have been shut down by all branches of government years ago. We all hope to never have to use our vehicle insurance and we cringe at the thought of calling our insurance provider because our home is flooded, but we couldn’t imagine not having protection for those things. We pay often and rarely benefit from it. One would actually use their prepaid legal plan more often that you would a car or home payout. As far as scams go they should all be called one then because it is the exact same business model. Death is your only sure bet for getting your cash back out of an insurance plan- and you won’t be around for that.
