Getting Ready For Your Chester Job Interview

Chester job interviews don't always come easily so once you have that all important appointment follow these tips to increase your chance of success

By Chris Morton

Getting that all important letter inviting you to attend an interview for the ideal job in Chester is only the first step to your success. What should you do to prepare? What steps should you consider when planning for your interview? How can you make sure that the impression you create brings you even closer to your perfect Chester job?

Relax, but not too much, and read the first of our tips below to help you prepare for your Chester Job Interview:

1) Arrive for your Chester job interview on time This is essential! When the letter arrives with your interview date and time check that you know exactly where the interview is being held and how you are going to get there.

If you are driving make sure that there is somewhere close by where you can park. If you are using public transport can you arrive before the time requested?

Many companies would prefer to change the time of your meeting earler rather than later. It is far better to do this than to set out on an impossible task of reaching your Chester job interview if you already know it is unlikely you will get there on time.

2) Do you know what form the interview will take? Read the invitation carefully. It may be a one page letter with a date and time; or crucial details regarding the interview procedure may be within.

When telephoning to reaffirm that you will be going to the meeting if the letter did not give these necessary details ask careful questions during the call.

For instance: How long will the interview be? What may happen at the meeting? Finding out the answers to these queries will enable you to be better equipped for the interview for the job in Chester.

Knowing how long the interview will be gives an indication of whether it will be a short but intense ‘grilling’ session or a whole day possibly involving testing, work sessions and lunch with other potential candidates.

Asking what will be involved should provide you with any information regarding who will be interviewing you, whether psychometric testing will be performed and whether they require you to bring along any further information to support your application such as certificates or a presentation.

Think of how much you will raise your advantage above any other candidates who did not ask these questions.

With this information in hand be prepared. You cannot do enough preparation for your Chester job interview.

3) Consider what you look like and whether it matches your idea of the position you have applied for. It is advisable for most job interviews to wear a suit. Do you have one? Does it fit? Is it presentable and immediately wearable?

A suit may not be the required attire for every job in Chester. If you are thinking that this may be so for your meeting be absolutely sure and carefully consider what you should wear and whether it is right.

4) Prepare as many answers to as many questions as possible Interview questions take many different forms nowadays. Traditional interview questions might include ‘what can you do that others can’t in this position?’, ‘what do you think you can bring to the company?’, ‘where do you see yourself in five years time?’ , ‘what are your strengths/weaknesses?’.

Many companies now use ‘competency-based’ questions. Even internal candidates must put in the dedicated preparation as it is not a foregone conclusion that their transition to the next level in their Chester job will come easily.

Mastering the competency-based interview to get the Chester job you aspire to take practise, time and consideration.

This is a more in depth section that will be covered separately.

5) Prepare questions to ask your interviewer Whilst it is acceptable, when asked if you have any questions, to state that the interviewer has actually already answered any queries you may have make sure that they have.

An ideal question to keep to one side is to ask your interviewer how they feel about their Chester job.

These are just the first steps towards preparing to succeed during your job interview and clinching your perfect Chester job.
