Fred Olsen cruises are a family run cruise line that have been running for 40 years now. The Fred Olsen name was started up by the Grandson of Fredrik Olsen, setting up one of the most important Norwegian shipping lines. This was under the company name A/S Bonheur, and since then most of the ships have been named using the theme of beginning with a ‘B’.

In 1926, the Brabant became the first noteworthy Fred Olsen passenger ship. 1951 the Blenheim took her maiden across to Newcastle from Oslo ,and two years later followed the Braemar. The ships were very eye-catching in those days.  Compared to the larger ships operated by Fred Olsen these days, they were much smaller ships.

Today the British based Fred Olsen cruises have a reputation for comfortable well maintained ships offering a classic cruise experiences to the mainly over fifties at reasonable prices. this cruise ship goes to the Amazon as well as the Canary Islands and Africa.  It also sails to The Caribbean, Iberia, Iceland, Mediterranean, USA, Canada UK and Ireland. Fred Olsen also operate mini cruises and around the world voyages.

The Balmoral, Braemar, Boudicca and Blackwatch have a golf packages including competitions, social events and mini excursions with rounds of golf. This is available on certain cruises to the Canary Islands, Caribbean, Baltic and Mediterranean.

Fred Olsen cruises provide a children’s program for school holidays during Easter, July, August, Christmas and the New Year, with activities and entertainment. The Arts Club is a special interest program available on selected cruises. Expert lectures instruct and demonstrate antiques, music, dance, bridge, wildlife, photography, wine tasting, painting, gardening and more.

They publish a newsletter online which allows members who have sailed with Fred Olsen before to recieve certain benefits each time they book`. Discounts are also available to those who book online. This company is quick to pass savings on to its customers and due to oil prices falling; they made a desision to get rid of fuel charges until the oil prices increaed again.
