Motor vehicle accidents are invariable caused by the driver’s negligent driving of a motor vehicle. Motor vehicles fall under two broad categories - Light Motor Vehicles (LMV) and Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMV).
Motor accidents also fall under different categories, such as a vehicle crashing against another vehicle, a vehicle crashing against a human, and a car crashing into an object or a cliff.
More and more governments all across the world are taking some serious action in reducing these accidents because of the staggering numbers of motor vehicle accidents.
So What Causes Motor Vehicle Accidents?
* Most motor vehicle accidents are caused due to excessive speeding of the vehicle involved. Most roads for example in the USA have prescribed speed limits which car drivers have to adhere to at all times. A motor vehicle accident is more often caused when a vehicle exceeds the prescribed speed limit.
* Cases of Motor Vehicle Accidents are also reported due to a driver being drunk. If a person in an inebriated state drives a car, he may in all probability not have full control of the car’s motion. Such drivers cause car crashes which could easily result in fatalities.
* Also, a vehicle may malfunction and cause a car crash or accident. Each motor vehicle is composed of many parts, such as the brakes, fuel pumps and accelerator. When these do not work, it may most likely lead to accidents.
Here are some numbers regarding Motor Vehicle Accidents
Statistics on Motor Vehicle Accidents may be shocking, even appalling. For example, two car accidents may cause close to 60 deaths daily. Statistics show that in the United States of America, around 1,000 car accidents occur in a day. In cases such as these, occupants of light vehicles such as a Honda, BMW and the like can survive death for up to 92 to 94 percent of the time. This amounts to 6% resulting in fatalities or 60 people losing their lives to motor vehicles accidents in a day.
What does the law do about this?
Most national governments have laid down statutes which govern the occurrence of a motor vehicle accident. In the event of an MVA, the motorist responsible for the crash must stop driving immediately and ensure that the papers of the car and his insurance papers are handed over to the law enforcement officers present at the scene (Police, FBI etc). And if convicted of negligent driving or another driving related offense, the convict is either sentenced to jail or asked to pay a penalty amount.
The key to preventing vehicle accidents is to drive carefully and safely. Car manufacturers have been making moves to fully comply with government-regulated safety standards. But the wise thing to do is to “Drive Slowly, Reach safely.”
