With all the competition in the service profession today, it’s much harder to attract quality clients and earn a good living.

Considering this, I’m going to tell you 5 secrets to getting more and better clients.

1. Marketing your business should be your number one goal.

Your strategy should be to market your business as much or even more than working with your clients. You need to spend at least 70% of your time marketing your business and 30% of your time working with your clients.

2. Become a positioner not a prospector. A positioner is someone who builds his/her reputation such that prospects come to them, they command respect. Positioners pick and choose clients, whereas prospectors hustle and struggle to get clients.  Become a positioner and share your valuable knowledge, expertise, and education with prospects, as a result you will be viewed as the “go to” person.

3. It’s important to educate your prospects with information to help them solve their problems. Don’t try and sell, as people are so sick of feeling like they are being sold. To connect powerfully with your best prospects, it’s essential that you educate them.

Think about it, the problem is that prospects go out of their way to avoid you, they even become defensive. How does that make you feel? The key is to look for opportunities to create and give your information away, which in turn will position you as the expert. As a result, you will create a powerful magnet to pull clients to you.

4. Design, develop, and give away information products to your best prospects. They will see you as an expert and be willing to pay much higher fees to work with you. This is a key to developing your brand and name reputation as an expert.

In terms of positioning, creating an info product will attract highly qualified prospects who view you as an expert in your field, and as a result, will pay top dollar to work with you.

5. Become a specialist, not a generalist. This is a big one. Highly successful service professional are specialists at one thing. When people think of that one thing, the specialist comes to mind. Prospects who want that one thing will pay top dollar for coaching and advice, and are attracted like a magnet.

It’s really important to know the insides and out of your target market. Who are they? What are their problems? and how do you help them to solve their problems?
