The SSAT and ISSE are both ways in which private and independent schools assess the abilities of potential pupils as part of their admission process. Some schools use one and some the other and there are a few schools that use both. They differ in several ways.

Though both examinations are used for testing different skills The Secondary Schools Admission Test is used to evaluate more reading in their comprehension section; while The Independent Schools Selection Examination has a more condensed range of history, social studies, and science in its comprehension section.

The SSAT begins with an essay section and the ISSE does the reverse, ending with an essay. In multi choice section the SSAT gives a choice of 5 sections, whereas the ISSE gives only 4 options.

The ISSE consists of carefully constructed, standardized verbal and quantitative reasoning tests designed to measure the student’s ability to learn and includes mathematical tests and reading comprehension passages that give information about the individual’s academic weaknesses and strengths.

The SSAT, with a slightly different set-up is designed carefully with the same view- to evaluate what the student can do academically. It was created to help both the student and recommending teacher to ease the application process.

In addition to North America, the SSAT is the admission test of choice of some 700 English Medium International Schools, both private and independent and educational organizations around the world.

The ISSE and the Catholic High School Entrance Exam are used as a form of admission in many schools. The examples or practice documents are available for your child to become familiar with their formats online. This gives them the opportunity to review the sources without added pressure in preparation for the actual test.

The ISSE and SSAT are challenging exams, which test not only your knowledge this far, but also they examine the way in which your child thinks. Preparing for this test will give your child the best chance of succeeding.
