Other medical conditions that can also cause chronic insomnia include kidney disease, Parkinsons disease, heart conditions, narcolepsy and hyperthyroidism.
Behavioural factors are also causes of insomnia and these include substance abuse, anxiety caused by poor sleeping habits, smoking, excessive use of caffeine or alcohol and napping during the day. There are other behavioural factors that can cause you to have insomnia as well.

Sometimes treatment can be as simple as removing the factors that are causing the condition. However, other times it is not this easy.
