Guide To The Best 90s Songs

The 90s were a wonderful period of music with great artists and memorable songs. This article explores some of the most memorable songs from this bygone era.

By Martin Sejas

The most striking feature of 90s songs is the incredible variety of genres that made their mark. All in all, no one genre dominated the entire era but each genre produced their own great bands and songs.

It wasn’t easy to choose a couple of songs from this era to feature in this article. Nevertheless, I finally made a decision and my only hope is that you enjoy what I have to offer.

(Everything I Do) I Do It For You – Bryan Adams

One of the best love songs from the 90s, if not the best. The fact that it remained on top of the US charts for 7 consecutive weeks is testament to its beauty and impact. It became the highest selling song in the world in 1991. The beauty of the song is that the message is both simple and powerful: if you want to show your undying love for someone, you must be prepared to do whatever is necessary for that person. A true ballad for the ages.

Iris – Goo Goo Dolls

When I think of this song, I always think about the movie City of Angels. This is normal because it was the film that took the song into the mainstream and made it one of the memorable tunes from the 90s. Unfortunately for Goo Goo Dolls, this song was not permitted to chart until it became a commercial single. It only reached number 9 in the charts when it was released as a single. If it had been released earlier, it would have been one of the biggest number one hits of the decade. It is still a great song nonetheless loved by many around the world.

End of the Road – Boyz II Men

In 1992, Motown came back to prominence with the release of this record breaking song in 1992. In total, it spent 13 consecutive weeks at number 1 in the United States, which Boyz II Men would break twice in the 90s. The song deals with an imminent breakup between 2 lovers, where the man does not really want to let his woman go. The voices of the singers blend together very well and soon their style became to get copied. Boyz II Men became the pioneers for a new era of boy bands throughout the 1990s.

All in all, the 90s will be remembered as a great period of music where no one genre was completely dominant. As the songs above show, 90s Songs have the ability to remain timeless and played over and over in the future.
