When it comes to getting good traffic to your online business, there are many techniques that you can use, but pay per click advertising is one of the most effective.  Whether you are a business that has just taken a step into online marketing or you are well established and just trying to help customers find your site, pay per click advertising, sometimes abbreviated to PPC, is something that you cannot afford to ignore.

Essentially, when you subscribe to a pay per click program, a link to your business will appear at a specific time and place. Whenever someone clicks the link to go to your business’s website, you will need to pay the advertiser a pre-arranged sum, usually not more than a few cents.  While this is relatively simple, there are a few things to keep in mind.

First you need to determine where and when your ad should show up?  Your search engine management company will help you will choose the keywords most likely to result in online orders and when these keywords are entered into any major search engine i.e. Google, Yahoo, Msn, AOL etc a link to your website will appear on top or to the right of the natural search results.  For instance, if you sell commercial auto insurance online, one set of keywords that pulls up your site might be “commercial auto insurance.”

When you think about the fact that about fifty percent of all sales on the internet are preceded by the use of a search engine, it is certainly important to think about advertising in this fashion!

Search engine advertising is not intrusive like spam. Spam interrupts what prospects considered important to have to respond to annoying sales messages. Talk to your prospects when they’re in a buying mood. Let them search you out. Allow them to fly into your web. When they’re using a search engine, they are in a receptive state of mind and coming across your link will feel like a positive thing rather than an annoyance.

Stretch your advertising budget with an effective pay per click campaign. Remember that you’ll only pay the search engine if someone clicks on your link and visits your site. You can add or subtract keywords at a moments notice. Find out which ones work and which don’t. Keywords should be very specific for the highest conversion rate but you can make money with some general ones if you’re careful. PPC programs allow you to set a daily budget so you stay in control of your finances. By controlling your daily budget you control your ad spend.

The online competition is fierce. Make sure when your customers are looking to buy from you they have no trouble finding your website. Use pay per click targeted advertising to achieve your sales goals.
