Now with Sony PSP you can buy almost anything for your Sony PSP online.  You can buy Sony PSP games and movies, you can buy accessories and music and you can join websites that let you download unlimited music and movies for a one-time membership fee.  You can also get the free updates from Sony online.  These updates enhance your PSP allowing it to do more things all the time.

Download

When you buy Sony PSP extras, like the upcoming add-on camera, you can still download the software online.  This software will enable the camera to be used in conjunction with voice chat.

This is the most exciting part of the PSP.  Never before have we been able to upgrade out game systems through the internet.  This facet of Sony’s technology is going to give obsolescence a run for its money.  When you download software for the PSP, don’t forget to include system updates.  One such update brought the internet to the PSP.  Another recent update brought the ability to the PSP to play music in another format besides MP3, meaning that’s one less file format we have to convert.

This is Sony’s conversion software that will convert the video and audio files on your computer to acceptable PSP formats and in turn download the converted files to your PSP.  If you choose to download software for the PSP you might choose this software package.  You can download Sony Media Manager for $19.95 or purchase it in a box for $29.95.

On DVD

There’s certainly more than one choice no matter which cost factor you choose.  We’ll go over one of each here.  Sony’s Media Manager, which sells for $19.95 to download the software and $29.95 for the packaged version, will transfer the video files to your PSP.  However, it won’t “rip” the movie off of your DVD.  Meaning it won’t copy the files from your DVD to your computer.  Once you have “ripped” or “burned” or simply copied those files, then the Media Manager will download the DVD movie to your PSP.

OK look at it this way.  Unless you’re just petrified or you really don’t want to mess with transferring your DVD movie to your PSP, you won’t lose anything by trying something for free.  If you don’t like it or have difficulty with the transfer then you can always pay for the easier ones.  In fact, whether you choose the free one or the pay utility, you can download either one to your computer.  So it wouldn’t hurt to download the free one and then if you didn’t like it, whip out the ole credit card and buy the other one.

You can also put your home videos on your PSP.  What a way to show off the kids!  There is also video conversion software that will help you convert the DVDs you already have to movie files on your PSP.  Keep in mind however, you are actually storing all of this media on a Memory Stick Pro Duo and that is an expense that can add up.  It’s up to you though, you can keep only the most important video files on your PSP or you can contact Guinness and let them know where to send your trophy.

On Music

With the Sony PSP you can now have all your favorite tunes at your fingertips, in your car and by your side on an out-of-town trip.  Whether you want to copy your CDs to your PSP or download music from the internet, you can do both.  They go to your computer first and then download onto your PSP. And there is specific software you can either buy or get for free to convert these music files into the kind of files the Sony PSP accepts.
